Maroons Soccer Club Tryouts - Fall '08 / Spring '09 Season
ONLINE REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS
Dear Players and Parents:
The Maroons Soccer Club is part of the Village of Ridgewood Community
Pass system, comprised of Ridgewood youth sports and other organizations.
The Community Pass system is an online registration process with
certain commonalities to all member organizations. For the Maroons
Soccer Club, online registration is a TWO-STEP PROCESS and is the
only way to register for the MSC Fall ’08– Spring ‘09
season.
1. First step: Registration online to the “MSC
08-09 TRYOUTS”. You must register to tryouts and attend the
appropriate tryout sessions indicated below. See link below: REGISTER
FOR TRYOUTS ONLINE (U-8 TO U-14).
TRYOUT RESULTS
Thanks to all who attended the Fall 2008/Spring 2009 Maroons
tryouts. The club once again experienced record tryout registration
this year so we are very appreciative that we live in such a vibrant
community. Unfortunately, record registration numbers translate
into more candidates for a relatively finite number of slots. That
means we can't assign every child to a team. There are still opportunities
to enroll in Ridgewood
Soccer Association programs. If you have any questions feel
free to contact your age group tryout coordinator or the club's
tryout coordinator Ray Smesko at smesko@optonline.net
or (201) 445-4778.
Please click on the following link for the list of teams and the
tryout numbers assigned to those teams. On the bottom left of the
page there is one tab labeled "Girls" and one tab labeled
"Boys". Only tryout numbers of those participants
assigned to a team will appear on the spreadsheet.
Tryout Results
Please note, the Maroons Soccer Club reserves the right at all times
to resolve any administrative errors in its sole discretion.
If your child has been assigned to a team it is imperative
that you act promptly. Please proceed to "Second step"
below. If you wish to decline the invitation please notify your
age group coordinator immediately. Registration for assigned players
will close in mid July and any positions not accepted will be assigned
to other children.
2. Second step: Once the selection process
has concluded in mid-late June, if your child's tryout number was
posted to a team, you must now register for the program. Click on
the following link “REGISTER
FOR MSC PROGRAM AFTER TEAM ASSIGNMENT” and proceed with
the registration process.
Tryout questions: should be directed
to the appropriate Tryout Coordinator indicated below. For general
questions about the Tryouts, contact the Maroons Soccer Club Tryout
Coordinator, Ray Smesko at Smesko@optonline.net
or 201-445-4778
Online Registration questions: e-mail to Lisa
at Leehenni@optonline.net
(do not call or email Ray with on-line registration questions) or
leave a detailed message on 201-612-1281.
Tryout Sessions: Tryout Sessions: The primary
tryout dates are 5/31 and 6/7. There are also limited sessions scheduled
for 5/28, 5/29, 5/30 and 6/5 as well. The tryouts are conducted
by gender by age group. Age groups U-8 through U-11 have two sessions
while age groups U-12 through U-14 have one session. It is imperative
that the child attend all sessions in their respective age group.
In situations where a child can not attend both sessions we will
make every effort to evaluate as fully as practical. A chart detailing
field locations and times is posted below.
PLEASE ARRIVE 20 MINUTES EARLY. For those age groups with 2 tryout
dates, you MUST ATTEND BOTH DATES. ALL PLAYERS SHOULD BRING A PHOTO
to tryouts with their name labeled on the back which will help evaluators
associate a name to a face. DO NOT wear any club designated uniform
jersey or shorts to tryouts. WEAR shin guards, cleats or sneakers,
and BRING water. THERE ARE NO CANCELLATIONS DUE TO WEATHER UNLESS
NOTIFIED.

Club General Information: The Maroons Soccer Club
is a member of the highly competitive Northern Counties Soccer Association
league. We are also members of the US Club Soccer organization.
During the fall of 2007, our 17th year, we sponsored 34 teams with
more than 500 youth players.
The goal of the club is to offer our players a program focused
on team and individual development, high-quality technical training
and an opportunity to compete with other club teams of equal caliber
in an environment that fosters good sportsmanship. Club soccer is
a year-round sport. Our players and their families make a significant
commitment when they join the Maroons Soccer Club. Fall and spring
outdoor seasons, travel tournaments, winter indoor training, indoor
tournaments… it adds up to many hours. Hours that can be incredibly
fun and rewarding for the children if we all work together to make
it so.
The Maroons Soccer Club participates each year in a tournament over
Columbus Day weekend. We traveled to the Wall Soccer Tournament
again this year. All Maroons U9-U14 boys and girls’ teams
competed in this tournament, and the club party on Saturday night
is fun for everyone! In addition, the club sponsors an annual Soccer
Splash swim party for our U8-U10 players at the Ridgewood YMCA.
The Maroons Small-sided Soccer Tournament, traditionally held on
Father’s Day Weekend, is the end-of-season highlight and major
fund-raiser. Approximately 100 teams from the area participate and
all club families are asked to volunteer some time to help out.
Last year was a huge success and this year marks our 12th annual
tournament. The 2008 tournament will be held the weekend of June
20-22.
Games, Practices & Training: There are approximately
10 NCSA league games in both the fall and spring. Boys teams generally
play on Saturdays in the Fall, Girls teams generally play on Sundays
in the Fall, and both Boys and Girls teams generally play on Sundays
in the Spring. During the winter, each team may choose to play in
indoor leagues or tournaments.
Generally there are two practice sessions per week during the fall
and spring, and one indoor practice session during the winter. Every
team is entitled to a minimum of seven 1-1/2 hour training sessions
with a professional trainer. Most teams opt to seek additional training
or coaching and divide the cost among their registered players and
families.
Fees: The Club Membership fee for the
Fall and Spring season will be $375 and can only be paid via credit
card. The fee will be payable upon notification of being selected
for a team. (See Second Step above). The fee is intended to cover
league registration fees; Club sponsored training sessions &
clinics, insurance, field rental & improvements, administrative
expenses and team equipment. Players are required to purchase the
specified uniform which is at an additional cost. Some teams, when
appropriate, will be coached by professional licensed coaches. These
teams will incur the cost of these professional trainers/coaches
and the financial commitment from players’ families will vary
per team and will be detailed further when team rosters are finalized.
A player will not be denied participation based on financial hardship
and if this is a concern, contact the MSC Treasurer, David Benjamin
at 201-445-6068 or david.benjamin@citigroup.com
